President of the Leadership Council Praises Senator Joe Wilson’s Stances
Munich
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Republican Senator Joe Wilson, a member of the U.S. Congress’s Defense and Foreign Affairs Committees, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which commenced on Friday in the German city of Munich.
The meeting discussed national, regional, and international developments, as well as ways to coordinate positions and perspectives on issues of mutual concern, particularly the threats posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
President Al-Alimi commended Senator Wilson’s firm stance against Iran’s destabilizing policies in the region and his advanced understanding of the Yemeni issue. He particularly praised Wilson’s repeated calls to work with Yemen’s regional allies and international partners in supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to restore state institutions and secure national territory. Al-Alimi emphasized that this approach is the best way to eliminate the threats posed by the Houthi militia and associated terrorist organizations.
The President also outlined the Council and government’s vision for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in Yemen and the region. He highlighted the necessary U.S. and international support in developmental, military, and security sectors to strengthen the government’s capabilities in fully restoring state institutions and asserting authority over all national territory.
Furthermore, Al-Alimi welcomed the U.S. administration’s decision to re-designate the Houthi militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, reaffirming the government’s commitment to close cooperation with the United States and the international community to implement this designation. He described it as a necessary pressure tool for achieving peace and stability in Yemen and the region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mikhlafi, the Economic Advisor to the President of the Leadership Council, and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the President’s Office.
