President Al-Alimi Participates in the Opening Session of Munich Security Conference

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, participated in the opening session of the 61st Munich Security Conference, which commenced today, Friday, in the German city of Munich. The event is attended by a large number of heads of state and governments, as well as ministers of foreign affairs, defense, and interior, alongside representatives from various regional and international organizations and alliances.

This year’s conference focuses on the security of the Red Sea and maritime routes, as well as the threats posed by Houthi terrorist attacks on maritime shipping and international peace and security.

The President of the Leadership Council will speak in the accompanying events of this prestigious global gathering, providing briefings on the humanitarian and economic repercussions of the crisis, as well as the Council’s and government’s vision for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in Yemen and the region. This vision aims to strengthen the role of UN member states and their ability to deter terrorist threats to maritime freedom and address their catastrophic consequences on various levels.

Furthermore, His Excellency will present updates on the economic and humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels. He will emphasize the urgent need for international economic support to curb inflation, strengthen the national currency, and cut off sources of war economy funding used by the Houthi militia to finance its hostilities.

On the sidelines of the conference, the President of the Leadership Council will hold meetings with several leaders and international figures as part of a packed agenda of discussions and engagements. These meetings aim to exchange perspectives and coordinate positions and strategies to address shared challenges at all levels.
