President of the Presidential Leadership Council Receives EU Ambassadors

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, Mr. Gabriel Munera Viñales, Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, along with the Ambassadors of Germany and France, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Netherlands Embassy.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council briefed the European ambassadors on the latest developments in the national arena and the necessary European interventions to support the Yemeni economy and alleviate the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime cargo vessels.

The meeting also addressed the U.S. administration's decision to designate the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, stressing the importance of the international community adopting such punitive measures as a peaceful option to cut off the sources of funding and arming for the militias. The meeting underscored the implementation of relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

His Excellency reassured the humanitarian community of Yemen’s commitment to taking all coordinated measures with the international community to ensure that the terrorist designation targets its primary objectives without harming vulnerable social groups or life-saving food and commodity imports.

He called on the international community to draw lessons from past disappointments in dealing with the Houthi militia and to avoid being misled by their deceptive attempts regarding their extremist ideology, which threatens the stability of Yemen and international peace and security.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
