President Al-Alimi Praises New British Support for Yemen’s Coast Guard
Aden
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, highly commended the United Kingdom’s announcement of a new package of support for the Yemeni Coast Guard. This support is part of coordinated efforts with regional allies and international partners to combat piracy, terrorism, arms smuggling, and organized crime.
In a post on X platform, the President, on behalf of the Council members, the government, and the Yemeni people, expressed deep appreciation for this new British assistance, which reflects the strong and distinguished relations between the two friendly countries. He also highlighted the timing of this announcement, coinciding with the roundtable event on Yemeni women’s roles in peace and security. This event, supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Sophie and the United Nations, aligns with efforts to restore state institutions, rebuild Yemen, and achieve progress.
The UK announced on Tuesday a new support package for the Yemeni Coast Guard, which includes fast patrol boats, training, and assistance. This is part of close international cooperation with the Yemeni government to prevent piracy and smuggling activities that undermine Yemen’s and the region’s security and stability.
This collaboration builds on the longstanding ties between Yemen and the United Kingdom, which has pledged greater developmental aid packages for the Yemeni people in the upcoming phase.
