His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, participated today, Friday, along with Council Member Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, in the opening session of the World Climate Summit hosted by Dubai in its 28th session.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council will later deliver the Republic of Yemen’s speech to the World summit, in which he will address the effects of climate change at the local level, and the international support required to improve national capabilities in confronting them, and reducing their repercussions on livelihoods, natural resources, and opportunities for their sustainability.
The opening session was kicked off with speeches by the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in preparation for launching the leaders’ discussions in the high-level international event.
The new session of the Climate Summit will be held this year under the slogan “Unity for Implementation” in an effort to advance international commitments towards decisive measures to maintain global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius, and to deal responsibly with the needs of developing and least developed countries that bear the brunt of the risks of climate change.
