The President receives the American Ambassador to discuss bilateral relations and developments in the Yemeni situation
Riyadh
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Thursday, the Ambassador of the United States of America, Steven Fagin.
The meeting touched on bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, and the commendable mediation efforts led by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to renew the truce and launch a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the distinguished bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the United States of America, and the American position in support of constitutional legitimacy in various forums.
He also highly appreciated the American humanitarian interventions to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, which was exacerbated by the terrorist Houthi militia attacks on oil installations and international shipping lines.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council confirmed the position of the Council and the government that is open to all initiatives in order to achieve comprehensive and sustainable peace based on the terms of reference agreed upon nationally, regionally and internationally. In a way that guarantees broad partnership without exclusion or discrimination, non-repetition of rounds of war, adherence to the constitution and the law, and respect for the resolutions of international legitimacy, public rights and freedoms, and good neighborly relations.
On the other hand, His Excellency the President pointed out the intransigence of the Houthi militias towards peace efforts, including the continued refusal to renew the truce and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. He also referred to their continued military escalation, their cross-border hostile operations, their military displays of Iranian weapons, and their threats to target shipping lines in the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden, up to their arbitrary measures against the Yemeni Airlines Company, and their gross human rights violations that affected thousands of people celebrating the anniversary of the eternal September 26 revolution.
His Excellency renewed the warning that any inaction on the part of the international community regarding the approach of the Houthi militias, would encourage those militias to persist in their threats to international peace and security, and make their practice of repression and violation of public freedoms a behavior that cannot be eliminated in the future.
For his part, the American Ambassador affirmed Washington's support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and their economic and institutional reforms in various fields.
Mr. Fagin praised the positive presidential and governmental response to the efforts aimed at alleviating human suffering and reviving the peace process in Yemen.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
