PLC President: Yemen Has Entered a New Phase of Regaining Upper Hand and Rebuilding State

His Excellency, President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received today Tuesday, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen, Ms. Abda Sharif. During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest local and regional developments, and joint efforts to promote regional security and stability.

The PLC President praised the historic relations between the Republic of Yemen and the United Kingdom, as well as Britain’s support for Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy and for the security of the region and its maritime corridors. He expressed his aspiration to further advance the bilateral partnership, particularly in supporting state institutions, economic recovery, and sustainable peacebuilding.

President Al-Alimi affirmed that Yemen has entered a new phase of regaining the upper hand, building on the progress achieved over recent years in shifting the balance of power. He said this phase would encompass the reconstruction of the state’s civilian, military, and security institutions, strengthening their capacity to carry out their national responsibilities. He added that these developments had provided a clearer vision, greater institutional cohesion, and a unified political will to complete the restoration of state institutions.

The PLC President also pointed to the unprecedented harmony and cohesion among state institutions regarding various national priorities, reflecting unity of vision and purpose in preparation for the next stage.

President Al-Alimi stressed the importance of addressing the realities on the ground as they are. He affirmed that the Yemeni government had never imposed a blockade on citizens living in areas forcibly controlled by the Houthi terrorist militias. Instead, it had ensured that ports remained open, imports continued uninterrupted, and the flow of food, medicine, and essential goods was maintained. He said the true cause of the humanitarian crisis lay in the continued seizure of state institutions and the diversion of their resources to serve the coup project. He stressed that ending the humanitarian suffering must begin with addressing its root causes through restoring the state and reestablishing its sovereignty over the entire national territory.

The PLC President reiterated that Yemen was not asking its partners and friends to fight its battle on its behalf. Instead, it called for a consistent international stance in support of the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions, while rejecting the use of Iranian-backed militias as a tool of blackmail and to achieve illegitimate gains.

He further stressed that Yemen’s stability serves a shared regional and international interest, noting that safeguarding the Red Sea, the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, and the freedom of international navigation begins with the existence of a strong state on Yemeni territory. Supporting the Yemeni state today, he said, represents a direct investment in the security of global trade, regional stability, and the protection of international law.

President Al-Alimi also commended the United Kingdom’s pivotal role as the penholder on the Yemeni file at the UN Security Council. He praised its efforts to support international legitimacy resolutions, mobilize backing for the political process based on the agreed references, and strengthen security and stability in Yemen and the wider region.

The PLC President renewed the Republic of Yemen’s welcome for the multinational maritime coalition aimed at protecting freedom of international navigation. In this context, he praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading role in enhancing security in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. He affirmed that support for the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions remains the cornerstone of achieving lasting security for international waterways and global trade, while eliminating sources of threat and deterring those who support them.

For her part, the British Ambassador reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, efforts to restore security and stability, the comprehensive peace process, and strengthening the bilateral partnership with Yemen across various fields.

She also welcomed the appointment of a Minister of Foreign Affairs, describing it as a positive step toward enhancing the effectiveness of government institutions at both the regional and international levels. She affirmed her country’s commitment to continuing close cooperation with the Yemeni government in all areas in support of peace, stability, and economic recovery in Yemen.
