PLC President: Red Sea Security a Shared Yemeni and International Responsibility

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received today, Tuesday, the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Yemen, Suhel Ajaz Khan. The meeting marked the conclusion of the ambassador’s tenure in Yemen.

President Al-Alimi expressed his appreciation for India’s balanced stances in support of Yemen’s stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries in various international forums, particularly on issues related to protecting maritime waterways, respecting state sovereignty, and addressing cross-border threats.

The meeting also reviewed the latest developments at the local and regional levels. President Al-Alimi said the attempts by the Houthi terrorist militias to drag Yemen into a wider conflict in service of the Iranian regime’s agenda posed a threat not only to Yemen, but also to the security and stability of the Red Sea littoral states.

He added that the threat also extends to Asian countries linked to this vital maritime corridor, foremost among them the friendly Republic of India.

The PLC President stressed that the international community should view the Houthi militias as part of an interconnected network of regional threats. He pointed to documented reports indicating growing coordination between the militias and terrorist organizations and armed groups in the Horn of Africa, as well as their involvement in smuggling weapons and military technologies.

He added that the militias have exploited those groups to threaten international maritime navigation and the supply of food and essential commodities, while also supporting piracy and transnational crime. He said these growing risks require enhanced international cooperation at all levels.
