PLC President Receives UN Special Envoy to Yemen

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received on Saturday the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Huns Grundberg.

The UN envoy briefed the President on the outcome of his recent consultations and contacts, as well as his coordinated efforts with the international community to revive the peace process in line with its agreed references, which were overturned by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

President Al-Alimi commended the Special Envoy’s efforts to promote de-escalation and advance peace in Yemen. He recalled the Houthi militias’ repeated pattern of reneging on every peace commitment whenever the international community believed a breakthrough was within reach. He said the militias’ tactics had become increasingly transparent, reflecting their alignment with Iran’s priorities and its regional agenda.

The President said the developments of recent days confirmed the same pattern. He stressed that the crisis did not begin with Sana’a Airport or claims of a blockade, but rather with the violation of Yemen’s sovereignty through an attempt to impose an Iranian flight outside the authority of the state. He added that the narrative and threats promoted by the Houthi militias amounted to blatant blackmail driven by a fascist mindset aimed at plunging the country into a comprehensive humanitarian crisis.

President Al-Alimi noted that, guided by the same extremist approach, the Houthi militias had previously targeted oil facilities in Hadhramout and Shabwa to prevent residents of the liberated governorates from enjoying better living conditions. He added that Tehran had pursued the same policy for years by targeting opportunities for prosperity and development across the region.

The PLC President stressed that the peace process in Yemen requires bold political tests. He said these tests must demonstrate that there is no future for any group that challenges the government’s exclusive sovereign powers or retains weapons outside state institutions. He added that no group can claim political, religious, or lineage-based rights that supersede the will of the people and the rule of law.
