PLC President: State Moves with Confidence to Protect Sovereignty and End the Coup

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), chaired a joint meeting on Friday with governorates’ governors and the Higher Security Committee. The joint meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Al-Zindani.

The meeting reviewed the latest national developments at all levels, efforts to improve living conditions and basic services, strengthen the presence of state institutions, and consolidate security and stability.

Discussions also covered recent developments, including Iran’s repeated violations of Yemen’s sovereignty and attempts by the Houthi terrorist militias to escape their mounting internal crises by dragging the country into new confrontations that serve the agenda of their backers in Tehran.

President Al-Alimi stressed the major national responsibility held by local authority leaders at this critical and sensitive stage in the country’s history. He called for intensified efforts to address current developments, strengthen national cohesion among Yemenis across all governorates. He also called to maintain close coordination with the military, security and intelligence services, and reinforce public confidence in state institutions.

“Your responsibility today is to consolidate security and stability, uphold the authority of the state, combat terrorism, smuggling and corruption in all its forms. Your responsibility is to protect sovereign ports and border crossings, and improve the efficiency of state institutions in delivering essential services to citizens,” the President added.

The President also reviewed the measures taken by the state in response to the escalation by the Houthi militias and their backers. He affirmed that the government had responded with the conduct of a state, not that of militias, based on a clear understanding that Yemen’s primary battle is to protect its sovereignty and rally regional and international support behind that cause. Rather than being drawn into confrontations that would allow the coup militias to evade their multiple internal crises.

President Al-Alimi praised the Armed Forces for demonstrating their ability to safeguard Yemen’s sovereignty and prevent the imposition of a fait accompli by force. At the same time, he emphasized the state’s commitment to avoiding an expansion of the conflict that could divert attention from the central issue or provide the militias with a pretext to shift international focus away from Yemen’s supreme national interest.

He stressed that every step taken by the state is intended to protect the interests of the Yemeni people and strengthen the government’s political position, rather than abandon its national objectives. Foremost among those objectives, he said, remains ending the coup, which will continue to be a principal national goal regardless of the sacrifices required.

In this context, President Al-Alimi welcomed the humanitarian initiative proposed by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to resume flights between Sana’a and Amman. He stressed that the state’s positive response to any initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of citizens does not constitute a retreat from its national objectives or acceptance of any infringement on its sovereignty. Nor does it grant legitimacy or political gains to the militias at the expense of state institutions.

“We are acting responsibly to meet the needs of our people and are opening every possible window for peace and humanitarian relief. At the same time, we will not relinquish the state’s exclusive right to manage its airspace and airports, nor will we allow humanitarian initiatives to become a cover for imposing a new fait accompli,” the President clarified.

The meeting was attended by Director of the Presidency Office Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani, Minister of Local Administration Badr Basalama, Minister of Interior Major General Ibrahim Haidan, Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Taher Al-Aqili, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Sagheer bin Aziz, Head of the State Security Service Major General Mohammed Ayda, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Service Major General Shalal Shaye, Director of the Supreme Commander’s Office Major General Ahmed Al-Aqili, and Chief of Military Intelligence Authority Major General Thabet Al-Radfani.
