PLC President Commends Korea’s Support for Yemen, Calls for Tougher Sanctions on Terrorist Militias

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Yemen, Do Bong-kae, today Tuesday, on the occasion of the conclusion of his tenure as his country’s ambassador to the Republic of Yemen.

During the meeting, President Al-Alimi expressed his appreciation for the Korean ambassador’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, wishing him success in his future assignments.

The President praised the longstanding bilateral cooperation founded on mutual trust and respect. He noted that Korea has been one of Yemen’s key development partners, particularly in the oil sector, giving the relationship a strategic dimension that endures to this day.

President Al-Alimi also expressed his deep appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people, the country’s political leadership, and their aspirations to restore state institutions and achieve peace and stability. He further commended Korea’s humanitarian and development contributions, as well as its responsible role in the United Nations Security Council, including its chairmanship of the Yemen sanctions committee and its efforts to uphold international peace and security.

The President reviewed the latest domestic developments and the government’s efforts to meet its essential obligations to citizens while advancing its financial, administrative, and institutional reform agenda. He highlighted the positive impact of these reforms on the country’s overall situation and stressed the need for continued international support to build on these gains and implement them into sustainable economic recovery.

In this context, President Al-Alimi praised the substantial fraternal support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure the success of the government’s economic reform program and to alleviate the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The President also addressed Iran’s repeated violations of Yemen’s sovereignty, citing the most recent operation of a direct flight to Sana’a Airport, which remains under the control of the Houthi terrorist militias, in a blatant challenge to the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the UN sanctions regime.

President Al-Alimi expressed confidence that the Republic of Korea would continue to play an active role within the Security Council and the Yemen sanctions committee to ensure the strict implementation of international resolutions. He also voiced hope for continued Korean support for efforts to tighten oversight of Iranian violations and strengthen international measures aimed at disrupting the financing and arming of the terrorist militias.
