His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, today Monday awarded U.S. Ambassador Steven Fagin the Unity Medal (22 May), Second Class, in recognition of his distinguished efforts during his tenure as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen.

The decoration was presented during the President’s reception of Ambassador Fagin on the occasion of the conclusion of his diplomatic mission. President Al-Alimi commended the ambassador’s role in mobilizing international support for the Yemeni government and people and in strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries across various fields.

The President also praised the significant progress in the Yemen-U.S. partnership, highlighting Washington’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people, the country’s constitutional legitimacy, and aspirations to restore state institutions, security, stability, and peace. He further acknowledged the United States’ contributions to safeguarding regional and international security, protecting vital maritime routes, supporting joint counterterrorism efforts, and confronting the Iranian-backed project and its destabilizing militias in Yemen and the region, foremost among them the Houthi terrorist militias.

The meeting also reviewed the latest domestic developments, particularly the government’s ongoing financial and administrative reform efforts. It discussed measures to improve public services and strengthen security and stability across the country, with sincere support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office and Jonathan Peccia, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Yemen.
