PLC President Receives Turkish Chargé d’Affaires, Warns Against De-escalation Deals That Ignore Iranian Conduct

President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received on Monday the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye to Yemen, Emrullah İşler.

During the meeting, the Turkish diplomat conveyed to President Al-Alimi the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his wishes for the President’s good health, as well as security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni government and people.

For his part, President Al-Alimi asked the Turkish diplomat to convey his greetings, along with those of his fellow Presidential Leadership Council members and the government, to President Erdoğan. He wished him continued good health and happiness and the Turkish people further progress and prosperity.

The meeting reviewed the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for strengthening and developing them. It also discussed the latest local and regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed the depth of the historical ties between Yemen and Türkiye and the enduring civilizational and humanitarian bonds uniting the two countries and peoples. He praised Türkiye’s humanitarian, relief, and development assistance, including the efforts of its official and charitable institutions in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The President also expressed his deep appreciation for Türkiye’s hosting of thousands of Yemenis who were forced to leave the country following the coup by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias. He commended the opportunities Türkiye has provided them in residence, education, healthcare, and employment, as well as the continued enrollment of Yemeni students in Turkish universities to help prepare them for contributing to the country’s future development.

President Al-Alimi welcomed the resumption of Turkish support and cooperation programs. He emphasized the importance of building on this step in a manner that serves the Yemeni government’s priorities, particularly in higher education, healthcare, infrastructure, electricity, and energy.

His Excellency also expressed his aspiration for the convening of the Joint Ministerial Committee and for further growth in bilateral trade despite the difficult conditions imposed by the war ignited by the Houthi terrorist militias.

The President highlighted the institutional and economic reforms being implemented by the government, including measures aimed at improving public revenues and basic services. He also underscored efforts to unify military and security decision-making as part of building a successful governance model in the liberated governorates, with sincere support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

President Al-Alimi also discussed ongoing developments in the region. He warned that any de-escalation agreements that fail to address the Iranian regime’s use of armed militias as cross-border proxies would remain fragile arrangements aimed at managing the crisis rather than providing a sustainable solution.

He noted that Yemenis do not view the problem with the Iranian regime solely through the lens of its nuclear file. Rather, they see it as a broader threat posed by its expansionist project, which has created, supported, and armed insurgent proxies that have usurped state institutions across the region and threatened regional security and international navigation.

President Al-Alimi stressed that genuine peace begins with respect for state sovereignty and the principles of good-neighborliness. He said this requires ending support for militias, cutting off their sources of funding and armament, and ensuring that the state alone holds the monopoly over the use of force and the decisions of war and peace.
