PLC President: Yemeni-Saudi Relations Have Entered a New Phase of Productive Strategic Partnership

President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, said that Yemeni-Saudi relations have entered a new phase of productive strategic partnership. He noted that the partnership includes rebuilding Yemeni state institutions, supporting the country’s recovery and stability efforts, and strengthening its economic, service, and development capacities over the long term.

In an interview with the Saudi newspaper Okaz, President Al-Alimi affirmed that Yemenis would witness the benefits of this partnership across various sectors, under the generous directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council noted that the new Saudi grant of $150 million for petroleum derivatives represents a continuation of the Kingdom’s steadfast fraternal support for the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership. He said the grant reflects a strong commitment to supporting state efforts to alleviate citizens’ suffering and enable the government to meet its service and economic obligations, particularly in the electricity sector, which remains a vital priority for citizens, especially during the summer season.

President Al-Alimi added that Saudi economic support over recent years has played a decisive role in preserving the cohesion of state institutions. This support enabled them to continue fulfilling their essential responsibilities despite the catastrophic repercussions of terrorist Houthi attacks on oil facilities and export ports.

He praised the close follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, and his team responsible for the Yemeni file, for their sincere efforts to strengthen bilateral partnership between the two countries. In this regard, he highlighted the leading role of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), overseen by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Ambassador and General Supervisor of the Program, Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber.

President Al-Alimi stressed that the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen has become a success story and a unique development model through the implementation of more than 280 projects and initiatives. These projects cover the sectors of electricity and energy, roads, water, education, health, ports, airports, fisheries, agriculture, and institutional capacity-building. He noted that Yemenis are directly experiencing the impact of these projects in their daily lives.

The President also commended the humanitarian interventions led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, alongside the “Masam” demining project. He described them as vital contributions to protecting civilians and clearing vast areas contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war.

President Al-Alimi explained that the new Saudi support coincides with comprehensive reforms being implemented by the government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani under the direct supervision of the Presidential Leadership Council. These reforms encompass the economic, financial, service, and administrative sectors and aim to enhance institutional efficiency, improve public services, and strengthen governance and transparency across all sectors.

He said the government would manage this support with the highest levels of responsibility and efficiency, building on the notable progress achieved in utilizing pledges and grants from brotherly and friendly countries, in a manner that contributes to more sustainable solutions for the electricity crisis and improves the performance of this vital sector.

President Al-Alimi further stated that Yemen is today among the countries benefiting most from the projects and investments associated with Saudi Vision 2030. He noted that the benefits could have been even greater had it not been for the war ignited by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

He said the coming phase would witness further positive transformations and that the new Saudi support forms part of an integrated package of the Kingdom’s continued assistance aimed at rebuilding institutions and strengthening the capacities of the Yemeni state over the long term.

“We only need a little more patience to witness the full impact of this sincere fraternal support on Yemen’s future, stability, and the aspirations of its people for security, development, and peace,” President Al-Alimi said.
