President Al-Alimi Discusses with President of Finland the Required European Support for Restoring State Institutions

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Saturday, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with His Excellency President Alexander Stubb of the Republic of Finland.

During the meeting, His Excellency the President praised the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. He commended Finland’s support for constitutional legitimacy and for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity.

He also highlighted the Finnish state model, which combines internal stability, good governance, advanced education, and peacebuilding. He expressed Yemen’s aspiration to benefit from Finland’s expertise in public sector reform, decentralization, and education as a means to rebuild national identity.

His Excellency further commended Finland for hosting numerous meetings and consultations between Yemeni parties, and for its well-established role in international mediation and conflict resolution.

The President discussed the latest developments in Yemen, including recent gains in unifying political and military decision-making, forming a new government, improving basic services, and ensuring the regular payment of public sector salaries.

He addressed the state leadership’s vision for Southern dialogue as a framework to consolidate national partnership, and emphasized the sincere Saudi support in this regard.

His Excellency expressed his aspiration for a more active Finnish role within the European Union to promote a firmer stance against Houthi militias, and to expand sanctions on financing and smuggling networks.

He also reiterated that the security of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait is not solely a Yemeni issue, but a global one, requiring the international community to support the government’s efforts to exercise full sovereignty over its territory.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency; Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Makhlafi, Economic Adviser to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council; and Mr. Louay Al-Eryani, Ambassador of Yemen to Germany.
