President of Presidential Council Praises UN Support for Yemen’s Unity, Stability, and Territorial Integrity

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), today Thursday, received Mr. Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen.
During the meeting, the President was briefed by the UN envoy on the outcomes of his recent consultations. He was also updated on the latest developments in the envoy’s coordinated efforts with the international community to revive the peace process, in accordance with its agreed references that have been overturned by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
The meeting also discussed domestic developments, including recent events in the eastern governorates following unilateral moves and escalatory measures by the Southern Transitional Council. The moves which constituted a direct threat to social peace, as well as the economic recovery program and the broader UN-sponsored peace efforts.
In this context, President Al-Alimi praised UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ advanced assessment of the recent events in the eastern governorates, describing them as unilateral actions with serious repercussions for regional security, and holding the Southern Transitional Council fully responsible. He stressed that this UN stance helped clarify the background of the renewed escalation to the international community.
The President briefed the UN envoy on the circumstances surrounding the developments, explaining that the state had exhausted all avenues of containment and dialogue before taking its sovereign decisions, which were aimed at protecting civilians, preventing division, and sparing the country a new internal conflict.
His Excellency affirmed the success of the handover of military camps in the governorates of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah, as well as other southern governorates, in a peaceful and orderly manner, in coordination with local authorities and with full support from the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
President Al-Alimi emphasized that the handover process marked a significant turning point in restoring the authority of state institutions and deterring any attempts to militarize political life. He reassured the international community of the gains achieved, noting that the process advanced smoothly toward the interim capital, Aden, in accordance with a coordinated plan with the Coalition’s leadership.
He further stressed the state’s determination to protect civilians, enforce the rule of law, and create the objective conditions for sustainable peace. He expressed confidence that the United Nations would be an effective partner in transforming this moment into a genuine opportunity to fulfill the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
The President noted that extending state control over all liberated governorates would open safe and unhindered corridors for humanitarian assistance, reduce constraints on the work of relief organizations. It would also create real prospects for improving living conditions, as well as facilitating the flow of essential goods and services.
He renewed his praise for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s honorable stance and its decisive role in achieving these gains and preventing the country from sliding into civil war.
President Al-Alimi reiterated the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to a comprehensive peace process based on the agreed references and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, affirming full openness to the efforts of the UN Special Envoy in this regard.
He emphasized that the recent sovereign measures and decisions do not constitute a departure from the peace track, but rather an important step to protect it from collapse. He stressed that safeguarding these gains requires a more effective UN role, particularly through activating sanctions mechanisms against those obstructing the political process and deterring any attempts to challenge the government’s exclusive authorities.
The President also underscored the United Nations’ responsibility to protect the sovereignty of its member states and to condemn any behavior that threatens their unity, security, or territorial integrity.
He commended the UN’s role in sponsoring the recent negotiations hosted by Muscat on the detainees file, which resulted in an important humanitarian agreement for the release of approximately 2,900 detainees and abductees, restoring hope to thousands of Yemeni families. He reaffirmed the government’s readiness to provide all possible facilitation for the release of UN and international organization staff detained by the Houthi militias.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency, and Dr. Shai’a Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
