His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Monday, Ms. Sofia Bogner, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen. The meeting reviewed the latest national developments in light of the outcomes of ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians in the eastern governorates.

During the meeting, President Al-Alimi commended the stances of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership, as well as Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity. He affirmed their support for the Yemeni people’s aspirations to end the coup by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias, and to restore security, stability, development, and peace.

The President outlined the background to recent developments in the eastern governorates, highlighting the presidential efforts undertaken since the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council to preserve the existing consensus. He also addressed the repercussions of repeated unilateral measures by the Southern Transitional Council on the unity of the Council and the government, as well as on living conditions and social peace. These circumstances necessitated a responsible move by the state leadership to protect civilians, in accordance with the Constitution and the references governing the transitional phase.

President Al-Alimi praised the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in de-escalation efforts, the protection of civilians, and the provision of relief to those affected in Hadhramout Governorate, as well as in preventing the situation from sliding into internal confrontations. He stressed that the coordinated action with the leadership of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy achieved all its objectives in full compliance with international humanitarian law.

His Excellency further addressed the sovereign decisions to declare a state of emergency and to end the Emirati presence in Yemen. He noted that these measures aimed to safeguard de-escalation efforts, uphold the state’s legal standing, and prevent the militarization of political life, while underscoring strict adherence to human rights and the deterrence of any violations.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council highlighted the significant success of the process of taking over military camps in Hadhramout and Al-Mahra governorates. He commended the role of local authorities and the Homeland Shield Forces for their strict compliance with international humanitarian law. He also praised the immediate launch of “Next Day” governance and confidence-building measures, including the protection of public and private property, the opening of legal investigations to prosecute those involved in looting and sabotage, and the engagement of local communities in safeguarding stability and consolidating public tranquility.

President Al-Alimi renewed the firm commitment to a just and comprehensive solution to the southern issue, in accordance with the free will of the people and under normal conditions. In this context, he reiterated his call for an inclusive South–South dialogue, without exclusion or preconditions, under the generous patronage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He affirmed the state’s and government’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with all regional and international actors. He clarified that correcting the course of partnership within the framework of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy does not mean severing ties with the brotherly United Arab Emirates.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his hope for continued European and international support for Yemen and its government as a close partner in safeguarding international maritime navigation, combating terrorism, and protecting vital waterways.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
