President Al-Alimi Responds to Southern Appeal, Requests Saudi Arabia to Host Comprehensive Southern Conference in Riyadh
Aden
An official source at the Presidency stated that His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, has closely followed the appeal issued by citizens and components of the southern governorates.
The appeal expressed sincere and responsible concern for safeguarding the essence of the Southern Cause, preserving its unity, and rejecting any unilateral or exclusionary calls that do not reflect the diversity of the South or the aspirations of all its people.
The President reaffirmed that the Southern Cause is a just and central issue in the process of building the modern Yemeni state.
He emphasized that there is no dispute over the right of the people of the southern governorates to a fair and equitable resolution that takes into account the historical and social dimensions of the issue.
Such a resolution, he said, must meet their legitimate aspirations, preserve their dignity and rights, and ensure peaceful coexistence, security, stability, and development.
In this context, the President stressed that resolving the Southern Cause cannot be monopolized by any single party or component, nor reduced to unilateral measures or claims of exclusive representation. Rather, it must be the product of collective will, a responsible dialogue process, and institutional approaches based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references. These include the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the Riyadh Agreement, the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, the Declaration of Transfer of Power, and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
The source affirmed the leadership’s commitment to safeguarding social peace, consolidating the principles of partnership and consensus, rejecting exclusion, and agreeing on a comprehensive national framework to address the Southern Cause in a just and inclusive manner. It also reiterated the categorical rejection of imposing faits accomplis by force or using weapons to achieve political gains that neither serve the Southern Cause nor yield any legal or constitutional effect.
The source further emphasized the state’s openness to all institutional initiatives and ideas aimed at resolving the Southern Cause. These efforts should align with the priorities of the transitional phase, preserve national unity, and build trust.
Any solutions, he stressed, must genuinely reflect the popular will and be achieved through peaceful and legal means under normal circumstances.
It stressed that the state will remain committed to justice and the protection of citizens’ rights. It will also sponsor a peaceful and institutional process to address the Southern Cause with the seriousness and fairness it deserves. This process aims to preserve social cohesion and safeguard Yemen’s security and regional stability.
In line with this national responsibility, and in response to the appeal submitted by citizens and components of the southern governorates, President Al-Alimi submitted a request to the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—to host and graciously sponsor this conference in the city of Riyadh. This comes as an extension of the Kingdom’s pivotal role in supporting Yemen and its people and in sponsoring all paths of consensus, and in providing a conducive environment for serious and responsible dialogue that leads to practical and sustainable outcomes.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed hope that the conference will include all southern components, forces, and figures without exception, including the Southern Transitional Council. He emphasized that the conference should reflect the diversity and pluralism of the South, prevent exclusion and marginalization, and avoid repeating past injustices.
