President Al-Alimi Receives French Ambassador to Yemen

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today Wednesday, Ms. Catherine Corm-Kamoun, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Yemen. The meeting discussed recent developments in Yemen and the French support required for the country’s comprehensive reform program.
President Al-Alimi expressed his deep appreciation for the historical relations between Yemen and France. He commended France’s active role in supporting international maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as its contributions to humanitarian and relief efforts. He also praised France’s principled positions in the UN Security Council in support of the Yemeni people and their aspirations to end the conflict and restore state institutions.
The discussions covered the economic situation and government programs aimed at strengthening recovery, improving public services, ensuring regular salary payments, and consolidating state institutions in the interim capital, Aden. The President also highlighted repercussions of the financial crisis exacerbated by Houthi attacks on oil facilities, which have worsened the financial crisis.
President Al-Alimi praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its support of Yemen’s state budget and its assistance to help the government meet its financial obligations, particularly in paying public sector salaries in the coming days.
His Excellency reaffirmed the Council’s and the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and sustainable peace process based on national, regional, and international references, including UN Security Council Resolution 2216. He stressed the need to end Iranian interference that has prolonged the conflict and deepened the humanitarian crisis.
The President emphasized France’s key role within the UN Security Council and the European Union in supporting efforts to enhance arms smuggling monitoring, tighten international sanctions, protect maritime security, and hold violators of international humanitarian law accountable.
For her part, Ambassador Corm-Kamoun reaffirmed France’s continued support for the Yemeni government, the peace process, maritime security, and efforts to address the humanitarian situation, as well as to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
