President Al-Alimi Receives UK Ambassador to Yemen
Riyadh
His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today Monday, along with Council member Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, Ms. Abda Sharif, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in Yemen, ongoing economic and security reforms, and efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
President Al-Alimi praised the United Kingdom’s support for the Humanitarian Response Plan and economic reform programs. He also commended its firm stance alongside the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore state institutions, security, stability, and development.
The discussions also reviewed the progress of financial and economic reforms and their expected impact on improving government performance and ensuring the regular payment of public sector salaries.
His Excellency commended the UK’s support for Yemen’s economic recovery plan and its assistance to the Yemeni Coast Guard in strengthening its capacity to protect territorial waters, combat terrorism and smuggling, and counter cross-border threats.
President Al-Alimi reaffirmed the Council and government’s commitment to a comprehensive peace based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2216. He warned against offering any new incentives to the terrorist militia.
He stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved by preventing the recurrence of violence through criminalizing sectarian and racist tendencies, empowering the state with exclusive authority, and ensuring its sole right to possess arms and make decisions of peace and war.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office.
