President Al-Alimi and Iraqi President Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council members Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, met today, Wednesday, in New York with His Excellency President Abdul Latif Rashid of the Republic of Iraq. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting discussed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for strengthening and developing them across various fields. In addition, views were exchanged on a number of issues and recent regional developments of common interest.

The two Presidents praised the historical relations between the two brotherly countries, including the coordinated positions on Arab issues in confronting shared challenges and threats.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council briefed the Iraqi President on the latest developments in Yemen, including the terrorist practices of the Houthis, their grave human rights violations, and attacks on freedom of international navigation. The actions that undermine prospects for peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya’ al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. On the Iraqi side, attendees included Dr. Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Mr. Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Dr. Khalid al-Yaqoubi, Security Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Ambassador Lukman al-Faily, Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
