President of Leadership Council Participates in Opening Session of UN General Assembly

His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, participated today, Tuesday, in the opening session of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He was accompanied by Council members Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazir. The session was attended by world leaders, heads of government, and representatives of regional and international organizations.

Yemen’s delegation to the current session also includes Dr. Shaya Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President of the Leadership Council.

Later this week, His Excellency the President will deliver Yemen’s address before world leaders and representatives of UN member states, outlining the latest developments on the domestic and regional fronts, as well as the international support required for the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government at various levels.

The President will also present the Council’s and government’s vision for achieving a just and comprehensive peace, deterring common threats, foremost among them the violations of the Iran-backed Houthi militias and their repercussions on international peace and security.

On the sidelines of the UNGA meetings, the President and the Council members will hold high-level discussions on the humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen. The discussions will also include the dangers of continued flows of Iranian weapons, and the growing terrorist activities of the Houthi militias and allied criminal networks.

His Excellency and the Council members will also meet separately with several heads of participating delegations to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
