His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Council member Major General Faraj Al-Buhsani, received today, Monday, Ms. Abda Sharif, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the latest domestic developments, including the continued progress in the performance of state institutions—starting with strengthening their legal status in the interim capital, Aden, and the ongoing improvement in the effectiveness of the government and the Central Bank. These improvements have had a positive impact on the currency exchange market and the prices of basic goods. The discussion also covered the regional and international support needed to sustain this progress and to complete comprehensive reform programs.

The talks further touched on the ongoing threats posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to international peace and security, with close support from the Iranian regim.

In this context, the President emphasized the need to intensify political, economic, and military pressure on the Houthi militias and their backers, and to leverage sanctions as an effective deterrent tool to restore security, stability, and peace in Yemen and the region.

His Excellency reaffirmed the Leadership Council’s commitment to maintaining international cohesiveness and adherence to international legitimacy resolutions, which serve as the optimal roadmap for rebuilding state institutions, disarming militias, and criminalizing all forms of racism.

The President also reiterated the Council’s and government’s keenness to develop a constructive strategic partnership with both regional and international communities to ensure the achievement of security, stability, and peace, as well as to end the terrorist threats to global trade and maritime routes.

President Al-Alimi praised the role of the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in preserving the coherence of state institutions, ensuring the state’s continued fulfillment of essential obligations, and enhancing resilience at all levels.

He also commended the UK’s supportive stance toward the legitimate government in the UN Security Council and its role in strengthening the capacities of the Central Bank, public finance, and institutional development. He stressed the need to scale up this support—including increased contributions to the humanitarian response plan and support for the government’s economic battle—as a critical entry point for undermining the war economy, combating terrorism, and tackling organized crime.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Presidency Office of the Republic.
