President Al-Alimi Affirms Importance of International Support to Advance Comprehensive Reforms
Riyadh
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, Jonathan Peccia, to discuss the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and prospects for enhancing and developing them.
The meeting also reviewed the latest domestic developments across all levels, the international support needed for governmental reform efforts, strengthening the national currency, and improving public services. Furthermore, the two sides discussed ongoing coordination to support law enforcement, counterterrorism efforts, anti-money laundering, and the fight against organized crime.
During the meeting, President Al-Alimi reiterated his appreciation for the United States’ supportive stance toward Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy and its valued humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis, which has been exacerbated by the terrorist Houthi militia’s attacks—backed by the Iranian regime—on oil facilities and international shipping routes.
The President presented an overview of recent political, economic, security, and military developments, as well as the progress of comprehensive reforms, and recent monetary and financial policy decisions made in line with the Presidential Leadership Council’s resolutions. His Excellency noted their positive impact on the national currency’s performance and the prices of basic commodities.
President Al-Alimi also highlighted the importance of coordinated governmental efforts with the Central Bank and relevant authorities to regain control over inflation, address the public budget deficit, and emphasized the urgent need for regional and international support to strengthen the reform trajectory.
His Excellency further outlined significant achievements in the security and military levels, including the arrest of terrorist cells linked to the Houthi militia and allied groups, the interception of arms shipments, military equipment, and narcotics—underscoring Iran’s ongoing investment in its proxy militias to destabilize regional and international security and prolong Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.
In this context, the President praised the existing cooperation and partnership with the United States in areas such as coast guard operations, counterterrorism, and anti-smuggling efforts. He also commended the U.S. role in supporting the United Nations inspection mechanism and enforcing the ban on smuggled Iranian weapons to the Houthis, drying up their sources of funding, curbing their terrorist activities, and deterring their destabilizing threats to Yemen and the region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic.
