President of the Presidential Leadership Council Praises UNICEF’s Humanitarian Interventions

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Thursday, at Ma'ashiq Palace, Mr. Peter Hawkins, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in the presence of  Dr. Shaea Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Minister of Water and Environment.  The discussions covered UNICEF's interventions across humanitarian fields, with a particular focus on the health and education sectors, child protection, combating malnutrition, immunization against deadly diseases, and psychosocial support. 

The meeting also addressed the UN organization's programs and projects in environmental sanitation, and building the capacity of local authorities to operate and manage water systems and their basins. This included emergency mechanisms and solutions to address the water crisis in the besieged city of Taiz.

His Excellency the President praised the established partnership between the government and United Nations organizations, including UNICEF, and their valuable interventions to mitigate the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis. This crisis has been exacerbated by attacks launched by the Houthi terrorist militias against oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels. President Al- Alimi received a briefing from the UNICEF Resident Representative on the organization's activities and interventions pertinent to its UN mandate.

The briefing covered UN efforts to alleviate the water crisis in Taiz city, the World Bank-funded cash transfer project, as well as the positive assessment of state institutions in the interim capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates  by international organizations operating in the country.

The meeting was attended by Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Presidential Office.
