
President al-Alim receives UN's Special Envoy to Yemen
RIYADH:
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alim, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Members of the Council Sultan al-Erradah and Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi received today, Wednesday, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Hans Grundberg and his assistant Ma'een Sharaim.
Mr. Grundberg provided an overview about his consultations and communications at national and regional levels, citing his efforts to revive the political process which Houthi militia reneged on with support by the Iranian regime.
President al-Alim confirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support the good offices of the UN's envoy, underscoring the importance of joining the efforts of the UN with the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to revive the peace track and alleviate the Yemeni peoples' humanitarian suffering.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with the council members, reiterated the government's initiatives to achieve comprehensive and just peace, and the Houthi’s gross human rights violations, including restrictions on the movement of individuals, goods, private sector activities, public freedoms, and the militias' indifference toward catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the country.
The discussions touched upon the file of the detainees and the forcefully disappeared persons who have been held in the Houthi militias' detention centers.
The discussion stressed the importance to reveal the fate of the struggling politician Mohammed Qahtan, before going to any new consultations in this regard.
The meeting also addressed the progress being made in unloading Safer oil tanker and the required measures to secure the marine environment, including the importance of initiating coordinated arrangements with relevant parties for the sale of the transferred crude oil to the alternative vessel and ending the militias' extortion in this matter.
The meeting was attended by Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak.
