President Al-Alimi Receives French Ambassador to Yemen

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, Ms. Catherine Corm Kammoun, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Yemen. 

During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the latest developments on the local and regional scenes, including the economic and humanitarian challenges exacerbated by the terrorist Houthi militia attacks on oil facilities and international shipping. They also addressed the French and international support needed to enhance the government’s efforts to confront these challenges.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council renewed his praise for the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the stances of the French Republic in support of the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore their national institutions, security, stability, and development.

His Excellency the President also expressed his aspiration for a more effective strategic partnership at all levels, and for doubling French support, particularly in the economic, humanitarian, environmental, cultural, and educational fields.

In this context, His Excellency commended the efforts of the international community to secure maritime passages, stressing that the solution to ending the threat posed by the terrorist Houthi militias to international navigation lies in restoring Yemen’s state institutions and supporting its government—an active member of the United Nations—to extend its authority over all its national territory.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council warned that the waterways would remain a hotspot of tension as long as the terrorist Houthi militias maintain control over adjacent coastal areas, noting their explicit collusion with terrorist organizations within Yemen and the Horn of Africa.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Director of the Presidency Office.
